“i am not a tourist” Expat Fair to hit Amsterdam on 7 October

This 7 October, Expatica will once again host the iconic “i am not a tourist” Expat Fair at the Beurs van Berlage in the heart of Amsterdam.

For those not familiar with the event, the “i am not a tourist” Expat Fair is the biggest expat-oriented event in the Netherlands – expected to host 4,500 internationals and friends this year. Now in its ninth year, it showcases a mix of expat-focused service providers, entertainment, social groups, overseas associations, networking opportunities, information, and the opportunity to mix with thousands of other internationals.

In fact, it’s the best opportunity expats have to get all the information and contacts you need in one place. Within a single day, you'll have the chance to learn about setting up a bank account, how to do your tax, and where to take Dutch language courses. The program includes workshops on writing, genever and cheese tasting and chocolate making, as well as on-stage performances and even speed dating. For families with children, “i am not a tourist” has a dedicated kids’ area managed by childcare professionals.

For newcomers who are still finding their feet, over 65 companies will be available to offer advice on housing, employment, relocation, taxes, and banking. In addition, approximately 10 educational institutions, including schools and universities will be present.

Though it has everything a new arrival needs, “i am not a tourist” is aimed at internationals that have been in the Netherlands for years, as well as recent arrivals. Many visitors come back year after year to mix with old friends, discover new opportunities, or simply have a fun day out with the family.

If you're looking for a house or a job, starting a business, or just want to meet other internationals, the "i am not a tourist" Expat Fair is for you!

“I hadn't been to the fair for 5 years; I saw some familiar and some new faces and enjoyed the talks,” said Nicola McCall, visitor to the fair in 2011. “It’s a great event and was busy even on the sunniest date I can remember! I think it actually re-energises a lot of us, stay put expats, when we meet others in similar situations, even if we've been around the Netherlands for a long time. For me, it was a 'look how far I've moved on from when I first came moment'?”

“’i am not a tourist’ is now in its ninth year, and bigger and better than ever before,” said Expatica Managing Partner Antoine van Veldhuizen. “We continue to rise to the challenge of creating new reasons to engage with internationals in the Netherlands, and I’m really looking forward to this year’s event, which will have even more to offer our international friends.”

ABN AMRO Bank, EUROHOME, Voerman International, and Worldwide Broker are the GOLD sponsors of “i am not a tourist” Expat Fair 2012 and will be there to answer questions regarding banking, relocation, moving, and finances. Other sponsors include Undutchables, Amsterdam Business School, Expat Center Amsterdam, Greenberg Traurig, and the Rotterdam School of Management.

Tickets to the Fair are free if ordered online (EUR 10 at the door). People that order online go into the running to win one of two EUR 10,000 grants from Amsterdam Business School. Further details can be found at www.expatica.com/iamnotatourist/
